As the only child of the “King of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” Lisa Marie Presley’s life was one of music royalty.
With the prestigious Presley name and as the sole heir to the Elvis Graceland estate, rock music’s first princess of fame and fortune was born.
Presley, who died at the age of 54 Thursday after suffering a heart attack at her home in Calabasas, California, will find fame of her own as she kicks off a music career that will hit the top 10 albums in the US.
But her life will be one of tragedies, including the death of her legendary musician father when she was nine and the loss of her son.
She would also have four high-profile breaks, including from singer Michael Jackson, and a fateful 107-day marriage to actor Nicolas Cage.
Tragedy at the age of nine
Born in 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee, at the end of “Elvis-mania,” news of Lisa Marie’s birth was celebrated like traditional royalty.

But her family life is soon torn apart by infidelity.
After allegations of affairs on both sides, Priscilla’s affair with her karate teacher proves the final straw in the couple’s already troubled marriage.
The couple eventually divorced later that year, in 1972.
Four-year-old Lisa Marie spent her childhood between her mother’s home in California and her father’s Graceland property in Memphis.
Her mother later entered into a relationship with actor Michael Edwards, whom Lisa Marie accused in a 2003 interview of “coming into my room and being drunk” when she was a teenager.
Tragedy struck again when Lisa Marie was just nine years old, when her father died at the age of 42 after suffering a heart attack.
During her school years, she began experimenting with drugs, which led her mother to send her to a series of private schools and at one point to a boarding school.

Speaking about her school years in a 2003 Los Angeles Times interview, she said, “(I) was kind of a lonely, sad, weird kid.
“I had a real self-destruction situation for a while.
“I don’t really fit in with school. I didn’t really have any direction.”
The first and ill-fated second marriage with Michael Jackson failed
After dropping out of high school in her junior year, Lisa Marie was sent to Scientology’s Celebrity Drug Rehab Center, where she would meet her first husband, musician Danny Keough.
They married in 1988 and have two children. Riley, now an actress and model, and Benjamin.

Just three weeks after her divorce from Keough was finalized in 1994, Lisa Marie married singer Michael Jackson, after proposing over the phone.
Soon the couple went to the Dominican Republic, where Lisa Marie quickly filed a divorce with Keough, and then privately married Jackson.
She later announced the wedding, saying, “My married name is Mrs. Lisa Marie Presley Jackson. I was married to Michael Jackson in a private ceremony outside the United States weeks ago.”

But their marriage was rocked by allegations of child abuse against Jackson.
The singer reportedly became dependent on Lisa Marie for emotional support, while becoming concerned about his use of sedative drugs.
Lisa Marie later said in an interview with Rolling Stone that she had hoped to “save” the troubled singer.

The marriage was theorized that the couple had an asexual relationship, which led to Lisa Marie appearing in a suggestive video of him on his 1995 song You’re Not Alone.
But a year later, in 1996, the couple divorced.
107 days of marriage to Nicolas Cage
The couple tried to reconcile over the next four years. However, in 2000, Lisa Marie entered into a new relationship with singer John Oszajca.
But she dramatically broke off her engagement after meeting actor Nicolas Cage at a party.
They got married in August 2002. But after just 107 days, their marriage ended in divorce.

Speaking to Larry King about the marriage in 2003, she said, “It seemed attractive, like I could be an equal. Similar situations, similar backgrounds.”
So we called, we had a great connection.
“It was kind of that kind of thing where you marry someone with the hope that… they either settle down [my life] Or it will bring out, you know, whatever was going on before what was a problem.
“So I did the last one, that’s it.”
bitter divorce battle
Four years later, Lisa Marie remarried, this time to guitarist and music producer Michael Lockwood, and her ex-husband Keough was the best man at the couple’s party.
The couple had twins, Finlay and Harper, in 2008.

But their 10-year marriage ended in an acrimonious divorce in 2016, during which Lockwood attempted to claim some of Lisa Marie’s substantial estate, despite a prenuptial agreement.
After a bitter battle, Lisa Marie’s inheritance is protected and their divorce is finalized in 2021.
Following in her father’s footsteps
However, there were happier times for Lisa Marie.
She followed in her father’s footsteps by pursuing her own music career, starting in 2003 with her debut album: To Whom It May Concern.
It charted in the top ten on the US Billboard album chart, as did the follow-up record Now What in 2005.

Fans had to wait seven years for her third album, Storm And Grace, which was released to positive reviews.
The name of the album is believed to have been inspired in part by her son Benjamin, whose middle name is Storm.
In 2018, Presley was featured on a new record titled Where No One Stands Alone, which was released to celebrate her father’s love of gospel music, and featured 14 original performances he recorded.
The title track was a re-imagined duet, featuring Lisa Marie’s vocals along with those of her father.
the death of her son
However, her life continued to suffer from tragic ups and downs.
Lisa Marie described being “devastated” by the news of Jackson’s death, at the age of 50, in 2009.
And in 2020, her son Benjamin committed suicide at the age of 27.

Last year, I wrote an article for People magazine about his death.
“I have dealt with death, grief and loss since I was nine years old,” she said.
“I’ve had more than a fair share of anyone in my life and somehow, I’ve made it this far.”
