Brighton 3-0 Liverpool: Player ratings – What the media say and statistics – Liverpool FC

[ad_1]

Nobody emerged from Liverpool’s horrible 3-0 defeat to Brighton with their reputations intact, everyone putting in a poor showing.

The Reds needed a response after a disappointing run of performances, but were frustrated in the first half, finding themselves lucky not to fall behind.

Brighton were ahead shortly after the restart, with Solly March heading home after a foul by Joel Matip, and then the midfielder doubled the home side’s advantage.

Since then, Liverpool have remained lifeless and Danny Welbeck made it 3-0 late on, in what is arguably the most worrying, predictable result of the season.

Here we compare our players’ ratings with those of readers of the Liverpool Echo, WhoScored, FotMob and This Is Anfield.

On what was a treacherous afternoon on the south coast, this was not a day to focus on anything positive.

It was a terrible back for Matip (3.5), who had the lowest average after one of his worst performances for Liverpool.

The centre-back was poor for March’s first goal and far outplayed, and looks like one of many players who are past his best.

Ian Doyle of Echo only gave Matip a rating of three out of 10, saying it was “all over the place” and “terrible” for the opening.

The 31-year-old played a long ball just one minute out of five attempts, according to FotMob, summing up Liverpool’s miss.

The next worst player was Jordan Henderson (3.9), who again looked seaside on and off the ball.

In our TIA reviews, we admitted that we “missed the number of ‘branded’ hoofballs the captain made.

Fabinho (4.4) was considered Liverpool’s third worst, but Doyle stuck by the Brazilian, admitting he “didn’t help” his teammates.

In terms of MVP, which is to say the least, Ibrahima Konate (5.7) has the best overall rating.

Next up for Liverpool is their FA Cup third round replay on Tuesday at Wolverhampton (7.45pm UK), which should be fun!
