Six children were killed in a Russian missile attack on a residential building in the city of Dnipro, east-central Ukraine.
The death toll has risen to 21, officials said today as rescue workers continue to search for survivors in the wreckage of the nine-storey building.
Valentin Reznichenko, the governor of Dnipro, said this morning that 73 people have been injured, 40 are in hospital, including four in intensive care.
Emergency workers worked all night searching for survivors. They said earlier that they had heard people screaming for help from under piles of rubble.
The attack destroyed 72 apartments and damaged more than 230 – leaving about 1,700 people without homes.
In a speech last night, President Volodymyr Zelensky paid tribute to the victims.
He said: the world must stop evil. Wreck removal continues in the Dnipro. All services are working. We fight for every person, every life. We will find every person involved in terrorism. Everyone will take responsibility. best.”
