Trevor Lawrence followed up four first-half interceptions with four touchdown passes as the Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in NFL postseason history in his 27-point muster to shock the Los Angeles Chargers in a Super Wild Card weekend game.
The story of the game
Lawrence engineered the game-winning drive, highlighted by a crucial 25-yard run by Travis Etienne on a fourth play and one that helped set up the Jaguars’ field goal position.
Then Riley Patterson kicked a 36-yard field goal as time expired to cap off an amazing conversion, the third most in NFL playoff history.
The Buffalo Bills famously came from 32 points down to beat the Houston Oilers in a wild card game in 1992, while the Indianapolis Colts came back from 28 points down to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in the same round in 2013.

The hosts moved closer to the Chargers after a six-yard strike from Lawrence to Jones with just over five minutes left in the third quarter.
Decker booted a 50-yard field to give Los Angeles a 16-point lead later in the third quarter, but Jacksonville struck again when Lawrence connected on a 39-yard scoring pass to Zee Jones with 44 seconds left in the third—the next two, however, failed conversion. Then, with five and a half minutes left in the entire game, a running call by head coach Doug Pederson saw Jacksonville go within two at 30–28, as they converted this time on a two-point attempt after Lawrence’s nine-yard touchdown run. TD strike to Christian Kirk.
It left Jacksonville within striking distance of the win, needing only a field goal to book their spot in the divisional round next week, rather than move the game into overtime. And last in the game, Patterson’s kick sailed across the uprights ensuring exactly that fact.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence: “You couldn’t write a crazier script… I’m speechless, honestly,
“I had no choice. If we’re going to win that game, and dig ourselves a hole like that, you have to score a lot of points. By doing that, the quarterback has to play well — so I obviously didn’t have a lot of options.”

“These guys sacrificed so much for me to be the reason we missed an opportunity. That’s what I was thinking. I know I’m going to make plays, I have to get back on track.”
“We never wavered, we never lost faith. The coach never lost faith in us. And so we made our way out of it. I threw four picks in the first half and these guys on my side on offense and the guys on the other side of the ball, they never lost faith in me.”
Jaguars coach Doug Pederson: “That’s what I love about Trevor. His demeanor, his aggression, his ability to let go and move on. But he’ll be the first to tell you it’s not about him. It’s the guys around him too, who make the plays.”
“But, from an individual standpoint, that was a really great performance by our quarterback.”
Chargers head coach, Brandon Staley: “Anytime you’re 27-7 in the first half and you have four takeaways, and you end up winning by a takeaway margin [5-0], it will be fatal. I’m hurting for everyone in that locker room.
“That’s the hardest way you can lose, in the playoffs. And certainly with the way we started the game, this is the team I know we’re capable of. In the second half, we didn’t finish the game.”
“Our season is over, but I love everyone in that dressing room and it was a move for us – we’re going to grow a lot from that.”
