The Supercopa de Espana 2023 final will take place with the El Clasico duel in the desert tonight, as Real Madrid faces Barcelona. The Saudi city of Riyadh is hosting the culmination of the mid-season mini-tournament between the major Spanish clubs.
Both teams reached the final with a heavy dose of drama as it required a penalty shootout. Thibaut Courtois was the hero of Los Blancos when he beat Valencia in the semi-finals, after a 1-1 draw, while Real Betis, the King’s Cup winner, refused to lose without facing Barcelona, and eventually surrendered in a penalty shootout after two equalizing goals over 120 minutes.
Since 2017, the Spanish Super Cup has not been contested between its rivals in El Clasico, and Real Madrid won the last two meetings between them in this final, and won the La Liga meeting earlier in the season. They will go out to capture Barcelona’s record 13 Super Cup crowns, with just one title separating the two sides on the all-time leaderboard. Follow El Clasico on the Standard Sport Live Blog!
