The Metropolitan Police Commissioner said he was outraged by the force’s failure to stop a firearms officer who admitted today that he is one of the country’s worst sex offenders.
David Carrick, 48, operated with impunity, carrying out more than 80 sexual offenses including 48 rapes, even though he was repeatedly reported to the police for crimes against women.
Carrick, who served in the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, the same unit in which Sarah Everard’s killer, Wayne Cousins, confessed to dozens of crimes, including sexual assault, false imprisonment, coercive control and assault by penetration.
Tonight, Sir Mark Rowley, the commissioner called in to reform the force after a series of scandals, said it had “failed”.
