‘Thomas Partey is not good enough to do what Casemiro does’ – Rio Ferdinand sparks controversy before facing Arsenal and Manchester United

Rio Ferdinand believes there is no comparison between Manchester United star Casemiro and Arsenal player Thomas Partey.

The Red Devils travel to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday in a bid to close the gap at the top of the Premier League, although United will have to do so without the summer signing.

Ahead of the clash, social media was mired in controversy over who was the best – an argument that existed when they were rivals Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid.

Casemiro has made a huge impact since arriving at Old Trafford from Real Madrid. The five-time Champions League winner has transformed Man United’s midfield and defensive backbone and will feel off.

Meanwhile, former Atleti star Partey has been a crucial go-getter for Mikel Arteta and has catapulted Arsenal to their current eight-point position at the top of the Premier League table.

However, Ferdinand says Brazil’s passionate starlet Casemiro is “mopping the floor” with Partey for his influence on the game, with both players continuing to do their fantastic part in breaking up play and winning possession to help launch attacks.

“I think the importance is to their teams… you can discuss both sides absolutely equally – but then, when you put in the stats, Casemiro is way off him,” the former United centre-back said on Vibe with the Five Podcast.

“I don’t think Partey can do what Casemiro does. I don’t think Partey is good enough defensively to do what Casemiro does.

“I don’t think it has a defensive effect [for Arsenal as Casemiro has] to Man United.

But Ferdinand did praise the 29-year-old, especially after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over north London rivals Tottenham.

“On the ball he does more, he dictates playing for Arsenal,” he said.

“He controls the tempo, he actually plays passes that I didn’t know he had. His passing was unbelievable.

“How much did it cost £40m? That’s a bargain.”

But Piers Morgan, an Arsenal fan, disagrees.

“If you really think Partey is not as good as Casemiro then you are in for a nasty shock on Sunday when your man bullies you into submission and I get that trend again,” he tweeted ahead of United’s draw with Crystal Palace on Wednesday night. .

Then later, in response to the midfielder’s yellow card, he said: “I think Casemiro was deliberately booked to avoid being proven right.”

Casemiro has five assists and two goals in the 27 games he has played since arriving from Real Madrid in a £70m deal last summer.

Meanwhile, Partey has helped Arsenal win 15 of their 18 Premier League matches.
