The Australian Open tennis tournament is back on Thursday with plenty of action to look forward to at Melbourne Park. Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic both returned to the Show Courts for their second round matches later today.
For Murray, he opened up his side of the draw significantly after Casper Road’s shock defeat to Jenson Broxby. Roberto Bautista Agut is now the only seeded player Murray can face before the quarter-finals.
Not since 2016, when the Briton reached the final of the Australian Open, has he been able to make it past the fourth round of a major tournament. Meanwhile, Djokovic will face qualifier Enzo Kwakod for a place in the third round, where he could face Grigor Dimitrov or compatriot Laslo Djery.
Britain’s Dan Evans continued his fine form earlier in the day when he beat Jeremy Chardy in straight sets to set up a brilliant third-round match against No. 5 seed Andrei Rublev. There were no Britons in the women’s singles draw after Emma Raducano’s exit from Coco Gauff, but Anas Jaber will be back on the field trying to win her first major.
