YT releases the new, cheaper Capra Core 1 and then upgrades the Core 2 model

In these days of global price inflation, it’s good news from YT because they’re releasing a new, cheaper model of their Capra enduro bike, and they’re upgrading the second cheapest model as well.

Launched in 2021, the Capra MK3 features 170mm of front and rear travel and a choice of carbon and alloy frames. The new base model, the Capra Core 1, uses an aluminum frame and is available with mullet (MX) or full 29-inch wheel configurations. It costs €2,699 / £2,699 / $2,699 / CAD 3,799.

For that, you get a RockShox Zeb Base fork (with new entry-level Rush RC damper) and SuperDeluxe R air shock; SRAM’s new DB8 mineral oil brakes and NX drivetrain. You also get YT’s trademark dropper post that uses SDG internals and offers up to 200mm of travel in XXL size. Here are the full specifications.

Note that there is a slight error in the spec chart above—the cassette is a SRAM PG 1210 Eagle with an 11-50T range.

Capra core 2

The addition of the new Core model allowed YT to really push the boat out with the Core 2 model; Upgraded from NX to GX, dropper travel has been increased to match the Core 1, with 200mm of travel at its largest size. This comes with what I will call a “price upgrade” of about €100.

Compared to the Core 1, upgrading to the Core 2 model gets you a GX (not NX) drivetrain with a wider cassette; a 38-grip Fox soft fork; Crank Brothers Synthesis wheels, SRAM Code R brakes.

Weights and prices

The YT was good enough to provide some weight numbers for the two bikes. These numbers are for the average weight for a size S, tubeless, pedalless, bottleless bike. Those weights in Liberty units are CAPRA 29 Core 2: 35.9 lbs.; CAPRA MX Core 2: 35.5 lbs.; Capra 29 Core 1: 37.0 lbs.; CAPRA MX Core 1: 36.6 lbs. Before you complain that this is too much, remember that it is a 170mm enduro bike that costs less than some tires.
