Magnitude 5.6 earthquake hits Islamabad, Khyber

Earthquakes were felt on Thursday by Islamabad and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after a 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit the region, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

According to media reports, the earthquake was felt by people in Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Shabakdar, Swat, Kohat, Swabi, Lower Dir, Bannu, Charsada and other areas.

PMD said the quake measured 5.6 on the Richter scale and the epicenter was at a depth of 190 km west of Chitral.

No injuries or property losses were reported due to the tremors.

The US Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 5.1, and its source was 47 kilometers from Barun in Afghanistan and at a depth of 96 kilometers.

On January 4, a strong earthquake struck parts of northern Pakistan, and various tremors were felt in different cities including Peshawar, Charsadda, and the mountainous Swat Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earthquakes have also been reported from Peshawar, Takht Bei, Dir Bala, Landi Kotal, Swat, Swabi, Hangu, Charsadda, and surrounding areas.

The January 4 earthquake was recorded at a magnitude of 5.9, and its epicenter was 43 kilometers southwest of Gorm in neighboring Afghanistan at a depth of 193.8 kilometers. .
