After the pair split last month, Maya failed to hand over the massive £800,000 diamond

But the long distance relationship hit the rocks last August when Maya decided to focus on her career in the UK — and Brooklyn Nets ice Ben, 26, and Maya, 28, went their separate ways last month.

But the beauty, who wowed Love Island fans last week in her first appearance in a series of revealing outfits, failed to deliver the colossal £800,000 diamond.

Now, maddened by her 6ft 10in height, Australian Ben has hit her with a legal letter demanding that she immediately return the ring.

“Since Ben has never, until now, asked for the ring back, you can appreciate that the letter came somewhat as a surprise to Maya,” said a source close to the star.

They added that they intend to return it. A spokesperson for Maya told The Sun last night: “Maya received a request from Ben’s representatives on Friday afternoon, asking her to return the engagement ring he gave her as a gift last year.

This was the first time Ben had asked for it back, and to avoid any suspicion, she never refused to give it back.

Maya makes arrangements to return the ring to Ben and wishes him all the best.

A friend of Simmons said: “Ben was really shocked when she left and didn’t give him back the ring.

“He was madly in love with her and thought it was forever, so he was really upset that she didn’t take her back. It cost about a million dollars and they were engaged for less than a year.”

Maya and the US-based NBA star began dating in May 2021 before becoming official a couple of months later.

The relationship was confirmed when they kissed at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in July of that year.

Ben popped the question in December 2021 — but Maya confirmed the news of their breakup when she spoke to The Times this month, saying, “I’m really, really single now. Newly single. It’s only been a month…but it’s nice.”

She was promoting the new series of Love Island, saying she was rehearsing her arrival at the villa.

A source told The Sun on Sunday at the time: “Maya called it off after things came to a head last month.

“She’s not going back to New York now. It’s heartbreaking for both of them, especially since they were so committed to each other.”

“They are both young and want to focus on their careers. Maya has a bright future ahead of her with job offers coming from everywhere and she feels positive.”

They added, “It’s been a tough time for them. While they both care about each other a lot, they really give it their all and realize they just come from two different worlds.”

“They now understand that they don’t have the time they thought they should devote to this relationship.

“After long nights and many hours of heartfelt conversations, they realize as much as they love each other, their nonstop careers and endless travel made it incredibly impossible to make it work.”
