Russia has suffered 180,000 dead or wounded in Ukraine so far, while the Ukrainian figure is 100,000 military dead and 30,000 civilian dead, according to Norwegian military estimates.
“The Russian losses are beginning to approach about 180,000 dead and wounded,” Norwegian Defense Chief Erik Kristoffersen said in an interview with TV2 on Sunday.
Norway, a country bordering Russia, has been a member of NATO since its founding in 1949.
“Ukrainian losses are probably more than 100,000 dead or wounded. In addition, in Ukraine there are about 30,000 civilians who died in this terrible war,” the Norwegian general said.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced its losses in September 2022, when Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said 5,937 Russian servicemen had been killed.
Despite the heavy losses, Kristofferson said Sunday, “Russia is capable of continuing (this war) for a long time,” citing Moscow’s mobilization and weapons production capabilities.
