A butcher was reported to have died while trying to butcher a pig in Hong Kong last Friday.
City police reported that the 61-year-old butcher was knocked to the ground by the struggling pig and slashed with a 15-inch piece of meat with a cleaver.
The butcher had already shot the pig with a stun gun and was about to kill the animal when it regained consciousness and knocked it down, according to CNN.
A colleague found the man unconscious with a wound to his left foot and a machete in his hand. He was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead.
Hong Kong police said the cause of death has not yet been determined.
The butcher worked at the Sheung Shwe slaughterhouse in the northern suburbs of Hong Kong, near its border with China.
Reportedly, Hong Kong’s Ministry of Labor has opened an investigation.
She said she was “saddened by the death and expresses her deepest sympathy to his family.”
“We will complete the investigation as soon as possible to determine the cause of the accident, ascertain the responsibility of the shift owners and recommend improvement measures,” the ministry said.
“We will take action in accordance with the law if there is any violation of the work safety law.”
