Delhi NCR earthquake today: 5.8 magnitude earthquake hits Nepal, tremors felt in Delhi NCR, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal at 2:28 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Center of Seismology (NCS).

The National Center for Seismology added that the epicenter of the quake was in Nepal, at a place 148 km east of Pithuragarh in Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, tremors were felt across Delhi-NCR, Jaipur and many parts of Uttarakhand. The tremors lasted approximately 10-15 seconds, causing many people to run out of their homes and offices in panic.

“It was scary as the tremors hit,” Shantanu, who is staying in a high-rise in Noida, told PTI.

Amit Pandey, a Delhi resident, said, “I was on the fifth floor of one of the blocks in the Civic Centre. I felt a rumbling noise under my feet and a slight tremor, when the tremor probably passed.” Many other people in the high-rise civic center, in charge of the Delhi Municipal Corporation, felt the tremors that struck when the House proceedings were in progress.

The quake was also felt in Dehardun, the capital of Uttarakhand, and other areas including Pithurgarh and Almora.

There are no reports of any damage to life or property so far.
