Rory McIlroy has accused Patrick Reed of not “living it real” after the world No. 1 reportedly refused to speak to the American ahead of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
Reed, who has been pursuing legal action on several different fronts since joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series last summer, was allegedly snubbed by McIlroy on the range in the run-up to the Rolex Series event at Emirates Golf Club.
Reed has since responded to McIlroy by saying “If you’re going to act like an immature little kid, you might be treated like a little kid”.
The 2018 Masters champion is among the players embroiled in an arbitration case with the DP World Tour over penalties for playing the inaugural LIV Golf event in England last June, with a hearing set to begin next month.

Reid launched a defamation lawsuit against several media professionals and organizations, while the attorney representing the American in the case also subpoenaed McIlroy and Tiger Woods for their roles in the players-only meeting that took place before the BMW Championship in August.
Asked whether it would have been naive for Reid to expect a standing ovation given the circumstances, McIlroy told Sky Sports: “His lawyers called me in on Christmas Eve.

The subpoenas are part of a civil lawsuit filed in June by Larry Kleiman, which alleges that Florida residents who purchased tickets to PGA Tour events are, or will be harmed in the future by the PGA Tour allegedly impairing the fields by suspending players who joined the LIV.

Incident t “something is nothing”
Reed allegedly threw the tee towards the main champion four times after he was snubbed, according to a report on the Spanish website ten-golf.com, although McIlroy played down the incident.
Asked what happened in his pre-tournament press conference, McIlroy said: “I was next to my bag and he came up to me, and I was busy working and kind of doing my practice, and I didn’t really feel like it… I didn’t feel the need to acknowledge it.”

“So I didn’t see a tee point in my direction at all, but apparently that’s what happened. And if the roles had been reversed and I’d been thrown at him, I would have expected a lawsuit.”
Reid: Rory acted like an immature child
Reed was asked for his response to the incident and accused McEroy of behaving “like an immature child”.
He told Golf Digest: “Because of the relationship Rory and I had — let’s be honest, we’ve had some great fights in Augusta and other tournaments and our friendships were really good until I joined LIV — I walked in there and wished Harry [Diamond, McIlroy’s caddie] Happy New Year and then Rory because it’s the first time I’m seeing them.
Harry shook my hand and Rory just looked down and was fiddling with his Trackman [device] And he kind of decided to ignore us. We all know where it came from – being part of LIV. Since my tees are Team Aces LIV jerseys, I moved it all at once. It was kind of a funny reaction. Funny how a little peck turned out to stab him and throw a tee at him.
“He saw me and decided not to interact. It’s unfortunate. But it’s one of those things—if you’re going to act like an immature little kid, you might as well be treated.”
Talk of McIlroy’s feud with Reid dominated conversation ahead of the DP World Tour event, although former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart wonders why so much attention has been paid to the incident.

“There was a lot going on yesterday [Tuesday]. It’s McIlroy’s first time back here and it’s perfectly legitimate that he didn’t really notice [Reed] And he was doing his job.
“I really can’t believe we’re talking about absolutely nothing.”
