Xbox acknowledges that “The Journey” was in the works for a GoldenEye 007 revival

No, you’re not dreaming – Rare’s legendary N64 shooter GoldenEye 007 is already coming to Nintendo Switch this week. Yes, after persistent requests, it’s finally back in service for the Switch Online Expansion Pack on Friday.

While we’ll never know how difficult it will be to revive this classic first-person shooter, not long after the release date was set yesterday, Xbox boss Phil Spencer took some time to acknowledge the “journey” that’s been going on. It was done by Microsoft’s gaming division to make this happen. As you may remember, there were a lot of licensing issues to overcome, and there were even canceled reboots along the way. This is exactly what he said:

Phil Spencer: “Getting GoldenEye 007 on Xbox has been a long journey, and it’s great to finally get it on Xbox and XboxGamePass. This classic from RareLtd is also coming out on #NintendoSwitch @NintendoAmerica, but you decide to play it. This is a classic worth playing.”

As Phil notes, “However you decide to play,” this game is well worth checking out. If you are using the Switch Online version of the game, you will have access to online multiplayer. And for users on Xbox, this game can be accessed via Rare Replay combo and Xbox Game Pass. This particular version will also come with 16:9 resolution and 4K Ultra HD support.
