Ukrainian officials have issued an air strike warning across the country as Russia launches an “intense missile offensive”.
The news comes as President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was “not interested” in meeting “nobody” Vladimir Putin for peace talks.
The governor of Odessa Oblast, Maxim Marchenko, confirmed that the Russian army was “preparing to launch a massive missile attack on Ukraine using planes and ships.”
“The missiles are flying within the territory of Ukraine. At least in the northwest of the Mykolaiv region,” said the governor of Mykolaiv Vitaly Kim via messaging app Telegram on Thursday morning.
DTEK, Ukraine’s largest energy producer, also said it was carrying out an emergency power shutdown in Kyiv, the surrounding area, and the Odessa and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
In an exclusive interview with Sky News, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he “doesn’t understand who makes the decisions in Russia”. He added that Moscow is asking for peace, but it is attacking Ukraine with missiles.
Zelensky dismissed the idea of peace talks with Mr. Putin, telling Kay Burley: “It’s not interesting to me. It’s not interesting to meet, it’s not interesting to talk.”
An adviser to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine also said that in order to stop missile terrorism, the country needs weapons.
“If you want missile terrorism to stop, you need to receive weapons that will allow us to defeat the enemy on the battlefield,” Yuri Sack told BBC Radio 4 Today on Thursday morning.
“The sooner we defeat Russia on the battlefield using Western weapons, the sooner we can stop this missile terrorism and restore peace.”

Zelensky says Russia is ‘throwing its soldiers into a meat grinder’
In an interview with Sky News, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed an expected Russian attack.
“We see that their attacks are stronger, and there may be some increases,” he told Kay Burley.
“[It] It depends on our strength and how we can block their attacks.
The East loses a lot of people. They don’t care. We count their losses. Thousands of soldiers – thrown into a meat grinder.

1674720425 Expert reveals “chilling” signs that Putin has become “reckless and emotional”
Alexander Gabiev, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, spoke about potentially troubling signs of Putin’s state of mind after comments he made yesterday.
In his book, Gaboyev stated, “Putin’s remark about Ukrainian nationalists shooting Ukrainian soldiers in the back in order to prevent them from defecting captures the challenge that Kyiv and the West face: a reckless, emotional leader who has trapped himself in a terrible information bubble.” A series of Twitter posts.
“Why does this matter? Because some of the crucial decisions the Kremlin makes about the war may be based on the same qualitative “information” that Putin shared today. The fact that there is no honest interagency process in Russia, but an emotional and disingenuous leader is chilling, he added.
This reality should figure prominently in the quiet discussions that Ukraine’s Western supporters are having with leaders in Kyiv.
There is a danger of overestimating Putin’s rationality and neglecting his increasing detachment from reality when trying to redraw Moscow’s red lines. So far the West has been able to do this in a resolute but careful way to avoid doomsday scenarios.”

1674719842 Zelensky reveals when he thinks the peace talks will start
In an interview with Sky News, President Zelensky was asked about the possibility of peace talks with Putin.
He was not sanguine about talks with “nobody” Putin, but outlined the terms under which he believed negotiations could begin.
“They don’t want talks and that was the case before the invasion,” he told Kay Burley.
President Putin decided so. I am convinced that Ukraine is just a first step for him.
I am convinced he is fighting a great war.
We hope that as soon as Russia withdraws its troops to its territory, they will admit their big mistakes and there will be a new government in the Russian Federation.
“We are neighbors. Only then will we resolve this situation.
“Then, probably, talks will be possible.”

Yuri Sak says that Western countries have not given “any clear indication” of the number of tanks that will be given to Ukraine
An adviser to Ukraine’s defense minister said that Western countries “did not give any clear indication” of the number of tanks to be delivered to Ukraine.
“We need 300 to 400 tanks to be a game-changer,” Yuri Sack told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
“This tank alliance made up of different countries, we don’t have a clear indication of how many tanks each country will provide. We have told our partners that this is the number we need.
“If you want to stop missile terrorism, you need to get weapons that will allow us to defeat the enemy on the battlefield.
“The sooner we defeat Russia on the battlefield using Western weapons, the sooner we can stop this missile terrorism and restore peace.”

1674719056 Zelensky refuses to say whether Johnson should get an official role representing Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelensky refused to say whether Boris Johnson should be given an official role representing the UK in Ukraine.
He laughed at the suggestion in an interview with Sky News, appearing to suggest Mr Johnson might not be ready for such a role.
He said, “He’s a good man.” “Who do you know? Gladly, gladly, really.”
Asked if he would support another bid by Mr Johnson for prime minister, Zelensky said: “I think it’s not right for me to support Johnson to be prime minister.
“We have a good relationship with Sunak. I think we’ve had a longer relationship with Johnson, because she’s been around longer.
“I’ve seen Johnson in different situations, I’ve seen him not in a war and then in a full-scale war, and that’s why we have special relationships.”

1674714610 Explainer: Why did the United States turn against sending tanks to Ukraine?
For months, US officials held back from sending M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, insisting they were too complex and difficult to maintain and repair.
Yesterday, that suddenly changed. Ukraine’s desperate tank pleas were answered with a sweeping yes across the Atlantic.
The dramatic reversal was the culmination of the intense international pressure and diplomatic twist of the arm that occurred over the past week. This resulted in a rapid succession of announcements: the United States said it would send 31 70-ton Abrams battle tanks to Ukraine, Germany announced it would send 14 Leopard II tanks and let other countries do the same.
A look at the formidable battle weapon, why it matters to Ukraine’s war with Russia, and what prompted the Biden administration to turn on the Biden administration’s tanks:
