While some singers might think nothing of sending a drunken video on private message to an artist asking to join their tour, for Rachel Chinuiri, it worked.
The rising singer from London revealed in a Twitter thread the wild way she managed to secure a spot on Lewis Capaldi’s upcoming European tour, which kicks off in Warsaw, Poland, on February 13.
Shinureri said she was scrolling through Instagram and discovered that the Scottish pop star had followed her and tagged in a story of himself singing her song — I’m not perfect (but I try).
A few months later while drunk, she said she thought it would be a good idea to ask Capaldi if she could join him on tour.
In a 57-second videotape filmed in the back of a taxi, Chinoriere told Capaldi that she would “happily volunteer as a tribute” as a supporting act.
She tweeted: “Woke up the next day, I forgot… until I go to my insta DMs and see it upstairs… in my drunken confusion I open it and see ‘seen’ with this video and the VN I sent. The seriousness of the situation starts to sink in.” ..
“I can’t tell my management… I’m going to lose my job.”
Embarrassed, Shinoriri said she had suppressed Capaldi’s stories because she was “terrified”.
The singer said her managers told her it looked “likely” that she could get a spot on Capaldi’s tour…but she didn’t tell them about her drunken video.

In the thread, which garnered nearly half a million views, she revealed that she secured the slot.
“I realized I was overthinking and now I’m going to do the Arena tour with Lewis Capaldi and I’m very happy.
Moral of the story: Drink less.

Capaldi’s Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent tour kicked off in Newcastle on January 21, kicking off the European leg on February 13 and ending in Munich on March 15.
The 26-year-old Scottish singer is known for a number of hit songs including Someone You Loved. His debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, spent 10 weeks at the top of the UK charts.
