Sean Daiche eyeing 12-goal Championship striker as first signing for Everton after missing out on N’Diaye

Soon-to-be Everton manager Sean Dyche is looking to sign before the transfer window closes and is said to be targeting Coventry City striker Victor Geocris.

The England boss has already missed his first target at centre-forward – Elimane Ndiaye – and is now very interested in signing the Swede as a replacement.

Dyche only had Tuesday to get deals across the line, but Gyokeres could prove a valuable addition as the Toffees’ need for goal-scoring recruits is clearly visible.

Indeed, Everton suffered a terrible start to the Premier League season after picking up just 15 points from their opening 20 matches, which is now officially the worst start in their history.

The Toffees only escaped relegation after last season’s penultimate game, so Dyche will be keen to avoid a similar stampede by bringing in some quality build-ups.

As mentioned earlier, the former Burnley manager instructed his new club to try to sign Sheffield United striker Ndiaye, but the player allegedly turned down Everton in favor of staying at Bramall Lane.

Now, he has made Dyche Gyokeres his new number one target, but the Merseyside club may have to shell out a big fee.

Although they look set to get close to £40m from the sale of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle, a deal close to completion.

Everton need to sign top scorers to have any hope of avoiding relegation

According to Football League World, Coventry have put an outrageous £18m price tag on Gyokeres, who has received interest from other Premier League clubs this month.

Indeed, Leeds United had previously registered an interest in the striker, while Frank Lampard was also keen to bring the Swede to Goodison Park during his tenure.

Everton has done some questionable business in the past. Since Farhad Moshiri became a major shareholder in 2016, they’ve spent over £600m on players, and they’re still, in a way, worse.

Prior to the arrival of the Iranians, the Blues had a record of bringing in players from lower divisions on a shoestring budget, sometimes with great success.

For example, David Moyes signed Tim Cahill from Millwall for just £2.2m, went on to score 68 goals for Everton and remained a cult hero among the fans.

With the Toffees currently bottom of the table, they could do with another Cahill. But, Gyokeres can also be a great addition.

The Sky Blues forward has scored 12 goals in 27 league matches this season – the second most in the competition. If Gyokeres can score 12 more times for Everton in the remainder of the current season, it could be the difference between relegation and survival.

Granted, spending £18m on someone with no Premier League experience is too risky, but with the transfer window drawing to a close Everton may have to take a penalty.
