The largest civil service union has called new strikes in its long-running dispute over jobs, wages and pensions.
Members of the British Museum’s Public and Commercial Services (PCS) Confederation will take an industrial strike in the February half-term school break..
More than 100 members of the museum’s visitor services and security teams will take seven days off from Feb. 13.
More than 60 PCS members will start five days of work at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) in Wales on the same day.
The union said the strike between February 13-17 was likely to disrupt the printing of driver’s licenses and affect other printing jobs at His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).
In a separate dispute, PCS members who act as legal advisers and court assistants in more than 80 courts across England and Wales have called for four days of strike action from 3 February.
The announcement comes ahead of the strike of up to half a million workers next Wednesday, including 100,000 members of the Chinese Communist Party.
General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Mark Sirotka said: “We have been warned by ministers that our action will spread if they ignore our demands, and we are good at our word.
In failing to get to the negotiating table with any new money, the government has lost its workforce — the very people they have applauded for keeping the country running during the pandemic.
If the government is serious about resolving the dispute, the ministers can resolve it tomorrow. Instead, they hide their heads in the sand shamefully, hoping we’ll go away. We won’t.
“Wednesday will see the biggest action by our union in a decade, with 100,000 of our members across England, Scotland and Wales telling the government they are calling for a pay rise now to help them through the cost of living crisis and beyond.”
