4.1-magnitude earthquake hits Pakistan, the second in ten days

By India Today Web Desk: A 4.1-magnitude earthquake hit Pakistan’s Islamabad on Sunday.

The National Center for Seismology said that “an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck Islamabad, Pakistan at 1:24 pm today.”

So far, there have been no reports of any loss of life or property due to the earthquake.

The epicenter was located 37 km west of Islamabad and was reported at a depth of 10 km.

However, local media in Pakistan reported that an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richer scale shook Islamabad, citing the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The accident occurred at about 12:54 p.m. and was 69.65 east longitude and 38.65 north latitude, according to the report. It added that the epicenter was somewhere in Tajikistan and the depth was 150 km.

On January 19, 2023, earthquakes were felt by Islamabad and various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after a 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit the region. The Express Tribune reported that the earthquake was felt in Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Shabqadar, Swat, Kohat, Swabi, Lower Dir, Bannu, Charsada and other areas.

No injuries or property losses were reported due to the tremors.

On January 4, a strong earthquake struck parts of northern Pakistan, and various tremors were felt in different cities including Peshawar, Charsadda, and the mountainous Swat Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earthquakes have also been reported from Peshawar, Takht Bei, Dir Bala, Landi Kotal, Swat, Swabi, Hangu, Charsadda, and surrounding areas.
