WWE Royal Rumble announced Kevin Owens challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed World Championship, as well as Alexa Bliss challenging Bianca Belair for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship. The Royal Rumble also announced a unique Mountain Dew Pitch Black Match between Bray Wyatt vs. LA Knight.

After Reigns defeated Kevin Owens in the main event, Reigns destroyed Sami Zayn in one of the most heated angles WWE had seen in years.

Of course, the main attraction was the men’s and women’s Royal Rumble match where Cody Rhodes won the men’s Royal Rumble while Rhea Ripley won the women’s title.

Pat McAfee returned for comment, and Michael Cole seemed legitimately surprised. I don’t think they freaked him out, and that made for a great moment.

Sheamus came out to a huge pop, but some of that was due to the fact that the Royal Rumble was going to start with a Sheamus vs. GUNTHER match.

The Miz, who is Sheamus and Gunther’s opposite, was chopped and beaten into oblivion by Sheamus and Gunther, including a 25 beat from Bodhran before eliminating him.

It is worth noting that the new Today debuted the Wheel Barrow Butt Slapper.

Johnny Gargano came out to an updated version of “Rebel Heart”.

Corey Graves asserted that “Banger Bros” was not safe for public consumption, and indicated that it was a copyright issue.

Fans broke out for Brock Lesnar-GUNTHER staring. Brock Lesnar went on a Royal Rumble rampage from eliminations before Bobby Lashley knocked him out after three minutes.

After Rey Mysterio didn’t show up, Dominic Mysterio came out with a Mysterio mask. He was mercifully booed.

Edge’s appearance was surprisingly short, but it did lead to the return of Beth Phoenix, who went after Rhea Ripley.

Logan Paul and Ricochet performed a double takeoff that had to be seen to be believed. see below.

GUNTHER held the record for time spent in the Royal Rumble, with 62 minutes.

Fans didn’t turn on Cody Rhodes, even though Sami Zayn wasn’t at the Royal Rumble. In fact, they didn’t even come close to running Rhodes. More on Rhodes’ big win here.

The men’s final 4 was Cody Rhodes, Logan Paul, Gunther and Seth Rollins.

This match took place in front of a live crowd

And it was still very visible. WWE has also used black lights and neon for an aesthetic.

Although L.A. Knight has mostly stuck his ground throughout this feud with Bray Wyatt, he defaulted to appearing terrified lovable once Wyatt was brought up with a new mask.

Black Court Match Grade: C Bianca Belair def. Alexa Bliss

This was a fairly quick match that mostly featured Bianca Belair. At no point did it seem like Alexa Bliss would manage to get upset.

The loss of Bliss gave way to a short video by Bray Wyatt as their reunion remains inevitable.

Corey went on a justifiable rant about WWE Superstars breaking up eliminations and hurting their chances after Liv Morgan did exactly that.

Poor B-Fab only lasted 36 seconds. Of course, Michael Cole took this opportunity to continue roasting Top Dolla.

Well displayed in Texas, Roxanne Perez was like a house on fire when she hit the ring.

San Antonio stood out in a big way for Asuka, who returned with a new face paint and haircut similar to her Kana incarnation in Japan.

Doudrop was dubbed Piper Niven as another name from the Vince McMahon era was passing by the wayside in the Triple H era.

Chelsea Green returned to massive pop music at #20. She was instantly eliminated in less than a second, setting the all-time record.

Michelle McCool made a surprise comeback and came off the front row.

Nia Jax entered at #30 but her music took off before the countdown. Nia Jax fans have figured it out in a big way as the IWC narrative continues to not align with the live reactions.

The Final Four was Liv Morgan, Rhea Ripley, Asuka and Nikki Cross, but it was more of a Final 3 between the former.

Women’s Royal Rumble Grade: B- Roman Reigns def. Kevin Owens destroys Sami Zayn

As soon as the bell rang, fans chanted “Sammy Owusu!”

This match was played like Owens and Reigns’ Thunder Dome reign matches.

Zayn’s final test was still not clear from before the main event, but as long as Zayn is helping Reigns retain the title, I’ll assume he’s passed.

Poor Kevin Owens botched a moonsault attempt and had to call out an audible beep right after.

Owens got a visual pinfall, six count, which is as close to defeating Roman Reigns as it gets.

The post-match angle featured Kevin Owens being destroyed as Sami Zayn not only made the save, but also hit Roman Reigns with a steel chair. It was a witty clip reminiscent of WWE when it was at its best while propelled in the midst of a wrestling war. Zayn hit Roman Reigns with a chair and was one of the biggest pops in history, and the heat was at Sportatorium levels. For more information on this ingenious segment, click here.
