The Institute of Earthquake Research (ISR) said a 4.2-magnitude earthquake jolted Kutch district of Gujarat state on Monday morning.
The area authorities said that there were no reports of loss of life or damage to property.
The quake was registered at 6.38 am with the epicenter 11 kilometers northeast of Dodai village in the district, the Gandhinagar-based CIA said in an update on its website.
It was preceded by a 3.2-magnitude earthquake at 5.18 am with its epicenter 23 kilometers east-southeast of Khavda village in the district, according to the NISS.
Kutch, which is about 400 km from Ahmedabad, is located in a seismically hazardous area, and low-intensity earthquakes occur regularly there.
The region, located in Saurashtra district, witnessed a devastating earthquake in January 2001 that killed 13,800 people and injured 1.67 thousand others. The earthquake caused severe property damage in various towns and villages of the region.
