Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhinney have already brought a touch of Hollywood to Wrexham – now the club could be at the center of real FA Cup success.
Welsh footballers could face either Manchester United or Manchester City – two of the biggest clubs in England – in the FA Cup fifth round draw on Monday night.
It comes after the National League side came just minutes away from a famously giant David and Goliath-style defeat against Sheffield United – a team three leagues above them in the English football pyramid – on Sunday night.
A late equalizer forced Wrexham to win a 3–3 draw – and a hard fought replay – against their Championship opponents.
Reynolds, the club’s co-owner, star of the Marvel hit Deadpool, watched from the stands as the emotional recap of the match below, later describing it as “one of the most exciting things I’ve ever seen.”
He said in a tweet after the match: “When Rob and I entered, it felt like everything was impossible. But the impossible is Wrexham’s favorite color.
“It was one of the most exciting things I’ve ever seen. Thank you to all the Wrexham fans who have come and put your hearts into this stadium tonight.”
Speaking to the media before the match, Reynolds also reiterated his desire to propel the club into the Premier League.
While Wrexham fans will no doubt share his lofty ambitions, the club still has a long way to go, sitting four leagues short of the promised land of English football.
But they could get a taste of Premier League life if they can win an FA Cup replay at Sheffield United on February 7 – and draw one of the competition’s remaining big sides.
Wrexham, the only team left in the National League, could face Premier League clubs Tottenham, West Ham, Leicester City and Brighton.

However, it would be a draw with 12-time champions Manchester United or current Premier League champions Manchester City that would really fit Wrexham’s Hollywood script.
A tie can be profitable for a National League team, too. A tie with a Premier League side could earn Wrexham more than £200,000 in television income.
In 2017, Sutton United, then in the National League, took home £710,000 from the FA Cup as they were eventually knocked out by Arsenal in the fifth round.
Wrexham must still beat Sheffield United in a replay next month – but we’re hoping to pull off an upset.

On Sunday, the club became the first non-league team since the establishment of the Football League in 1888 to score three goals in the first, second, third and fourth rounds of the competition.
They beat Oldham 3-0 in the first round, followed by a 4-1 win over Farnborough in the second round, before beating Coventry City 4-3 in a thrilling third round match.
They will be supported by the exciting form of striker Paul Mullen, whose goal on Sunday meant he became the first player since 1984-85 from a non-league club to score consecutive goals in the first, second, third and fourth rounds of the league. FA cup.
With a superhero landlord, deadly attacker and the prospect of a near unbeatable opponent, Wrexham may be about to write a story worthy of a true Hollywood epic.
