Memphis police gave Tire Nichols 71 commands over 13 minutes, analysis claims
A video analysis by The New York Times found that Memphis police officers gave Tyre Nichols 71 orders over the course of 13 minutes after they stopped his car.
As noted in the analysis, some of the orders given to Mr. Nichols were confusing and contradictory. In other cases, the officers told Mr. Nichols to comply with demands he had already complied with, such as to “get down to earth” while he was already on the ground.
Camera footage of the arrest appears to show the Memphis officers using Mr. Nichols’ inability to follow a series of vague and sometimes impossible orders to justify escalating their response tactics.
