Tottenham have signed right-back Pedro Boro from Sporting Lisbon on loan until the end of the season with an obligation to buy for £39m this summer.
Tottenham paid an initial loan fee of around £5m to sign the 23-year-old on deadline day.
The Spaniard joins Antonio Conte after weeks of protracted negotiations with Sporting, becoming Tottenham’s second signing in the January window after the loan arrival of Arnaut Danjuma.
Boro, who has been a key player for Sporting this season having scored three goals and provided 11 assists in 26 appearances in all competitions, will wear the number 23 shirt at Tottenham.
The former Manchester City defender may be ready to take on his old club on his Tottenham debut, as they take on Premier League champions Conte’s side at home on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.
In an interview with Spursplay, Boro said: “I feel good about the move. I really wanted to come here. It’s a unique opportunity for me and I hope everything goes well.”
“I can bring a lot of character and character to this team. Above all, my desire and will to win. I also managed to watch a few league games this season, I’ve been following ours too, and in this case, I can say that now, so -Yes, I can offer a great personality, desire, and demeanor.
“It’s been my dream since I was little to play in the Premier League. Hopefully it will come true, it goes well on Sunday, and we get a win.”

Boro’s arrival led to the departures of fellow right-backs Matt Doherty and new Spence on deadline day, with the former moving on permanently while the latter went out on loan.
Doherty joined Atlético Madrid on a free transfer after mutually terminating Tottenham’s contract to allow him to join the Spanish club until the end of the season.
The Republic of Ireland international left Tottenham after making 71 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals since his arrival from Wolverhampton in August 2020 for around £15m.
Doherty’s departure was due to be a loan, but that would have netted Tottenham up to nine players on loan and the FIFA limit is eight.
Spence became the eighth player on loan after moving to French club Rennes in a deal until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old joins Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele, Brian Gill, Joe Rodon, Sergio Reguilon, Giovani Lo Celso and Destiny Odoji on loan.

“We have mutually agreed to terminate Matt Doherty’s contract to enable him to join another club,” a Tottenham statement said.
“We would like to thank Matt for his service and wish him well for the future.”
Doherty will be presented as a player for Atletico Madrid on Wednesday at 12:30pm.
ANALYSIS: Big promotion in a key role Image: Boro joined Sporting permanently from Manchester City last summer
Nick Wright from Sky Sports:
The 3-4-2-1 system favored by Antonio Conte requires an effective wing-back, and while Ivan Perisic has bolstered his left side, his right has been neglected. So far.
Pedro Borrow arrives at Tottenham having emerged as one of Europe’s hottest young players in the center with Sporting Lisbon, scoring nine goals and providing 13 assists in 67 La Liga appearances since joining from Girona in 2019.
He helped the Portuguese team win a league and cup double in his first season with the club, and that success allowed him to test himself against Champions League rivals, including Tottenham this season, and Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City last season.
He has embraced that challenge, proving his ability to excel at the highest level both in and out of possession, but his attacking threat is key to his appeal to Conte and Tottenham.
Photo: Boro is much more productive in attack than Emerson Royal
So far this season, Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have managed just two goals and one assist between them in a total of 28 Premier League appearances.
The Brazilian was first choice for most of the campaign, and a deeper look at the numbers shows more clearly the contrast between his production and that of Boro.
Boro has created seven times more chances in every 90 minutes than Emerson and his numbers for tackles, passes, shots and successful tackles are much higher too. He represents a huge upgrade for Tottenham into a crucial position.
How Man City could benefit from the deal: Boro have faced Tottenham twice in the Champions League this season
Manchester City are set to benefit from Boro’s move to north London as they have a sale clause believed to be 30 per cent.
Tottenham’s £39m deal would see City stand to make £11.7m from the transfer.
Boro joined Sporting from City for £7.2m last summer after a successful loan spell with the Lions.
He did not play any matches for Pep Guardiola’s team, who signed him for £11m from Spain’s Girona in August 2019.
