Sony confirms that it will be removing the PS Plus Collection library in May

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the PlayStation Plus collection will soon cease to exist.

Starting May 9, the 19-game collection will no longer be offered, SIE said Wednesday. Games can still be redeemed up to this date and will then be available to users who remain a PlayStation Plus subscriber.

The PlayStation Plus collection is a library of PS4 games given exclusively to PS5 owners who are also members of the paid subscription service.

It originally included 20 games (10 primary and 10 third-party games) before Persona 5 was removed in May 2022.

Collection includes God of War, Fallout 4, Mortal Kombat, Uncharted 4, Ratchet and Clank, Days Gone, Until Dawn, Detroit, Battlefield 1, Infamous Second Son, Batman Arkham Knight, The Last Guardian, The Last of Us Remastered, Resident Evil 7, Bloodborne, and Monster Hunter World.

The feature was made available at the launch of the PS5 in 2020 as a benefit for owners of the new generation console only.

At the time, SIE CEO Jim Ryan said he hadn’t decided whether to expand the PlayStation Plus lineup beyond the initial launch lineup.

“Well, we’ll wait and see how the world receives the Plus collection,” he told GQ. “You know, what games were played and how much was played before we made any decisions about that.

“We think it has the potential to be a great user acquisition tool. It could be said that if you’ve never had a PS4 and choose to buy a PS5, you’re basically going to get a PS4, right?”

Ryan said that a subscription model like Xbox Game Pass “makes no sense” to Sony’s first-party operation, given its focus on big-budget games.

On Wednesday, Sony officially confirmed PlayStation Plus Essential Games for February. They are Ole Ole World, Mafia Definitive Edition, Evil Dead: The Game and Destiny 2: Beyond Light.
