Netflix has announced the expansion of its Premium plan features amid the launch of its password sharing campaign.
New features include an increase in the number of downloads, from four to six, as well as the availability of spatial audio on more than 700 of the streaming service’s most-watched titles, including the likes of Wednesday and Glass Onion: A Knives Out of Obscurity.
The best Netflix movies
Netflix describes spatial audio as “the best quality audio experience.” It increases immersion by creating a “field” of sound, enabling noises and effects to be heard from more precise locations, rather than from the left or right stereo channels – yet no additional equipment is required.
The company added spatial audio support to many of its original shows and movies last year but has now expanded to hundreds more in the Netflix library. The audio feature will also be available in popular new titles such as Luther: The Fallen Sun when they are released in March.
Users can find supported spatial audio content from Netflix by typing “spatial audio” into the Netflix search bar to see a full list of all upgraded movies and shows or by searching for a new spatial audio tag that will appear alongside supported titles.
In addition, Netflix is increasing the number of downloads available to Premium plan members. The company now allows subscribers who sign up for its most expensive tier to download content to up to six devices simultaneously — two more than was previously allowed.
These new features are available at no additional cost to members who are already on a Premium plan, are choosing to upgrade, or are signing up for the first time, although some people may consider canceling their Netflix subscription altogether given the recent changes.
Now Netflix has revealed its plans to prevent password sharing, as the company aims to crack down on people using one account across different homes. Account sharing restrictions and additional member fees are likely to be implemented in more countries by the end of March.
