Samsung recently held its first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2023, where it announced some new smartphones and laptops, including the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra, which looks to give Apple’s MacBook Pro a run for its money while also targeting gamers.
The Galaxy Book Ultra 3 is a 16-inch laptop with a 120Hz OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and an aspect ratio of 16:10. It also features a 13th generation Core i7 or i9 processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 or 4050 graphics card.
While there’s no option for the RTX 4090 configuration, the Galaxy Book Ultra 3’s configurations are more than enough to serve professionals and creative gamers, making this, on paper, a much more flexible laptop than the MacBook Pro.
While Apple in recent years has leaned more towards gaming, with Mac releases of big hits like No Man’s Sky and Resident Evil Village, macOS still isn’t the perfect operating system for gaming. This is because most games are not developed with macOS in mind, and the hardware itself is still not where it needs to be for gaming.
Samsung Galaxy Book 3 series
Of course, Samsung isn’t the first to try to create a laptop that rivals the MacBook Pro, as laptops like the Dell XPS series offer similar high-end performance in a slim design in a portable form factor. But the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra’s design, combined with its latest CPU and GPU offerings, makes it a competitor that wants to attract creative professionals and gamers.
The Galaxy Book 3 Ultra will be available starting February 17th at a starting price of $2,399.99 — $100 less than the base model 2023 16-inch MacBook Pro.
