Aid is flowing as the number of victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria exceeds 24,000

International aid was pouring into parts of Turkey and Syria on Saturday amid a winter freeze in affected areas, affecting rescue efforts and exacerbating the suffering of millions of people, AFP reported.

The United Nations has warned that at least 870,000 people are in urgent need of food in the two countries after the earthquake, which left up to 5.3 million people homeless in Syria alone. The United Nations World Food Program has appealed for $77 million to provide food rations to at least 590,000 newly displaced people in Turkey and 284,000 in Syria.
