Survivors continue to emerge from the Turkey earthquake; The death toll exceeds 41,000

Turkey’s official Anadolu news agency reported on Friday that Turkish rescuers pulled a teenage boy alive from the rubble of a collapsed building 260 hours after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit southeastern Turkey and Syria.

Fourteen-year-old Osman Halibiye was taken to a hospital in Antakya.

The Dubai Health Agency said two men, Mehmet Ali Sakiroglu, 26, and Mustafa Avcı, 33, were rescued from the rubble of the building.

After he was rescued, Afshi saw his newborn baby on a phone call to his parents, according to Reuters.

The rescue effort in Turkey came amid criticism over non-compulsory building codes. Thousands of buildings collapsed in the February 6 earthquake, leaving huge amounts of rubble for rescue teams to sift through.

More than 41,000 people in Turkey and Syria were killed in the earthquake and hundreds of thousands were displaced from their homes.
