TOKYO – In the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 and after the tsunami, which left nearly 18,000 people dead or missing, medical institutions were badly damaged, and many people died without receiving proper treatment. One estimate is that there will be about 6,600 “untreated deaths” immediately after the earthquake under Tokyo, which is expected to occur sometime in the future.

March 11th marked the 12th anniversary of the 2011 earthquake. Measures to deal with a massive earthquake, such as increasing the number of Disaster Medical Assistance Teams (DMAT), must be strengthened to save as many lives as possible.
