An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck Afghanistan, Sunday, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).
GFZ reported on Sunday “Magnitude 4.5 earthquake, occurred on 12-03-2023, 04:03 PM (GMT +4:30) Kabul time, Latitude: 36.53 and Long: 71, Depth: 151.0 km, GFZ reported on Sunday .
The earthquake struck at a depth of 71 kilometers at 36.53 latitude and 71 longitude. The earthquake hit Yamghan district in Badakhshan, Afghanistan.
The Afghan province of Badakhshan has been frequently hit by earthquakes, which has worried geologists.
According to the report, Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province is prone to earthquakes due to its proximity to the Chaman Fault and Central Asian countries.
Within a week, the province experienced more than a dozen earthquakes of magnitude 4.3 to 6.8, the Indian National Center for Seismology (NCS) and the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
Meanwhile, Badakhshan province was hit by several avalanches in February, killing several people and injuring others.
The frequent earthquakes in the region show how vulnerable the region is and have to be more careful of the severe earthquakes that occur, as the German geologist estimated that an earthquake would occur in Afghanistan soon.
