On Thursday, rescue teams recovered two more bodies after floods hit two Turkish provinces already devastated by last month’s powerful earthquake, bringing the death toll in the new disaster to 16.
Flash floods caused by heavy rain turned streets in Adiyaman and Sanlifurfa provinces into rivers on Wednesday, washing away cars and submerging homes and camps housing quake survivors.
Most of the deaths occurred in Sanliurfa, where on Thursday rescuers found the bodies of two people reported missing in the mud and debris left by the floods. Search teams are still searching for a missing person.
In Adiyaman, two people drowned after a container house housing a family of earthquake survivors was washed away by flowing waters. A nurse and her two-year-old child are still missing.

Adiyaman and Sanliurfa were among 11 Turkish provinces hit by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake on February 6, killing more than 48,000 people in Turkey and an estimated 6,000 in northern Syria.
Meanwhile, a moderately strong earthquake shook a city in northeastern Turkey on Thursday, sending people into the streets in fear.
The epicenter of the 4.8-magnitude earthquake was in the city of Bolu, about 162 miles east of Istanbul.
Bolu Mayor Tangu Ozkan told Haber Turk TV that there were no reports of damage to any buildings in the city, but he said many people rushed outside in fear.
He said paramedics responded to “one or two” panic attacks. A few people were injured after jumping from balconies.
