A mother is reunited with her newborn baby girl 54 days after they were separated during the chaos of the catastrophic earthquake in Turkey.

Reuters reported that government authorities brought the three-month-old baby, named Fitin, to her mother, Yasmin Begdas, in a hospital in Adana.

DNA testing confirmed Bigdas – who was once believed to be one of the tens of thousands who died in the quake and its aftermath, according to Al Jazeera – as the girl’s mother.

“Reuniting a mother and her child is one of the most expensive tasks in the world,” Family and Social Services Minister Drea Janik told Reuters.

The baby girl, who was rescued unharmed from the rubble of a collapsed building in Hatay province 128 hours after the February 6 earthquake, was named Jezem by the medical staff who cared for her – which means “mystery” in Turkish. She separated from her mother.

“The baby is really a miracle. The fact that she survived and did not have any health problems affected our pain,” said Yannick.

The ministry said in a statement to Reuters that Fiten’s father and two brothers died in the quake.

After the earthquake, the child was flown to the Turkish capital, Ankara, on a presidential plane for treatment. This week, she made the trip back to Adana to reunite with her mother.

Her recent journey was documented in a video Yannick posted to social media on Monday.

“Fifty-five days of longing are over,” Yannick wrote in a tweet. “Vitin is our baby now too. As a ministry, our support will always be with you.”
