Arsenal have enjoyed a fantastic season in 2022/23 so far.
Mikel Arteta’s team is currently at the top of the English Premier League table, eight points behind Manchester City in second place with only nine matches, although City has ten matches. Arsenal got 72 points from their first 29 league matches, a number of points they have only improved five times in Premier League history.
But that hasn’t stopped some fans and pundits alike from criticizing the state of the Premier League, with some claiming this is one of the easier seasons to challenge for a title given Liverpool and Chelsea struggled, sitting in eighth and 11th. Ranking respectively. Those claims have now been dismissed by Arteta, who has hinted that this is the highest level he has ever seen in the league.

“I’ve been in this league 20 or 21 and I’ve never seen a league like this because of the level,” he said ahead of Sunday’s game against Liverpool. “The level of the managers, the level of the organization, the quality of the teams and the quality of the players.
“The ability of teams to change players and formations is something that I think no one has seen before.” The Spaniard’s comments are in line with City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne’s recent assessment of the Premier League, with the talented playmaker claiming that the purchasing power of so-called smaller teams has improved the competitive nature all around.
Speaking about the Citizens’ season last month, De Bruyne said: “It’s been good this year, the league has changed a bit. The lower teams are able to spend more money and buy better players, and all the teams are of high quality.
“The difficulty level is getting harder. We are second in three competitions. Compared to other years, I don’t feel the difference. There are some games we should have won, it depends.”
