The mother of a six-year-old who shot and injured a Virginia teacher has been charged in connection with the incident.
Abby Zwirner, 25, was shot in the hand and chest Jan. 6 at Reachneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia, during an alleged fight inside a classroom.
The mother of the boy, 6, who shot her, Deja Taylor, has been indicted by a Virginia grand jury on felony child negligence and misdemeanor counts of recklessly leaving a loaded firearm to endanger a child, according to prosecutor Howard Gwinn.
Ms. Zwirner was seriously injured and spent nearly two weeks in the hospital, undergoing four operations.
Last month she described her recovery as “exhausting”, telling NBC News partner Sky News USA how she struggled to get out of bed and was unable to fully use her left hand.
The teacher has filed a $40m (£32m) lawsuit against the school.
