Louisville Metro Police Interim Chief Jackie Gwen Villarroel said during a news conference Tuesday that the gunman, Conor Sturgeon, legally purchased the AR-15 used in the attack from a local store in the city.

She added that body camera footage from the shooting will be released later Tuesday afternoon.

Mayor Craig Greenberg said a vigil will be held Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Muhammad Ali Center.

Gunman Connor Sturgeon left a final, chilling voicemail message revealing his plans to “kill everyone” at the bank, according to a police audio dispatch.

The audio recording, posted by Broadcastify, captures the minute-by-minute police response to Monday’s terror attack, when the disgruntled 25-year-old employee fatally shot colleagues at the Old National Bank in downtown Louisville.

In the audio recording, the dispatcher is heard relaying to law enforcement officials at the scene that Sturgeon called a friend before the attack and left a voicemail saying he felt “suicidal” and planned to “kill everyone at the bank.”

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said body camera footage from the shooting will be shown and discussed during a press conference at 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to CNN.

He said the footage would “focus on the interactions between the shooter and the police” and that what was shown would be “respectful” to the victims.

After the press conference, the footage will be posted on YouTube.

Mayor criticizes “horrific” gun violence as he calls for reform

Mayor Craig Greenberg blasted the level of gun violence in Louisville as “appalling” during a press conference Tuesday where he called for reform.

He said 40 people have been killed by firearms in the city this year. He urged all levels of government to take action.

“This level of gun violence is beyond terrifying,” he said.

“We have to act now,” he added. “We need short-term action to end the epidemic of gun violence now so fewer people die on our streets, on our banks, in our schools and in our churches. And for that, we need help. We need help from our friends in [the Kentucky Capital of] Frankfurt and help our friends in Washington, D.C.”

“This isn’t about partisan politics. This is about life and death. This is about preventing tragedies.” You might think that this would never happen to you, that it would never happen to any of your friends or loved ones. I thought so. The sad truth is that no one in our city, no one in our state, no one in our country has that luxury anymore.”

“Last year, I survived a workplace shooting. And now yesterday, I lost a very close friend in another workplace shooting,” said Mr. Greenberg.
