It never seemed likely that Meghan Markle would attend King Charles’ coronation next month after being placed in an ‘impossible situation’. It was announced earlier this week that, after weeks of speculation, Prince Harry will attend the historic event while Meghan has stayed behind in America with their two children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Palace insiders told The Mirror that Harry spent weeks chatting to aides after he indicated his intention to travel to the UK. Royal sources added to the post that the signs were in place for Meghan to skip the coronation because she was apparently upset about her children being excluded from the ceremony.
The couple’s biographer Omid Scobie confirmed that Archie’s birthday “played a factor in the decision” and predicted it would be a “fairly quick trip to the UK” for Harry.
A royal source added to The Mirror: “The fact of the matter is that the Duchess was never likely to attend the coronation. The mood in California was that she felt she was being put into an increasingly impossible situation, and there is a fair sense of relief that the situation was resolved after so much speculation and uncertainty.

“It is one thing to attend the late Queen’s funeral out of respect for Her Majesty, but quite another to attend the late Queen’s funeral.”
Another source said the palace staff were “joyed that the circus wasn’t coming to town,” while another person expressed sympathy for Meghan, saying: “She’s so damned that she does and so damned if she doesn’t. As a mother, she probably did the right thing before.” her young children who should pay tribute to him.”
Harry’s stay in the UK will be brief before he returns to the US to enjoy his children’s fourth birthday celebrations. The Duke will only attend the ceremony, and will not take any further part in the coronation during the three-day bank holiday weekend.
It is believed to be the first time Harry has been with his family since the Queen’s funeral last year, as well as the first time he has seen Charles and Prince William since the publication of his memoirs, Spear.
With only three weeks left until the coronation, chaos has reportedly ensued behind the scenes, with sources saying the rehearsal was “massively” overrun.
Seating plans have not yet been decided upon, and builders were drafted to build a ramp over fears that the monarch might stumble in his heavy ceremonial robes as he ascended to the throne after his coronation. Buckingham Palace denied the allegations and aides insisted everything was running smoothly.

Meanwhile, security measures for the monarch’s coronation will be assessed on a “case by case” basis amid a “massive police operation” – with Harry returning to the UK for the historic occasion. One of the biggest concerns for Harry, 38, is the ongoing issue of his personal security when traveling to the UK.
Yesterday Police Minister Chris Phillip (THURS) said he hoped the high-profile coronation of Charles and the Queen Consort would be comparable in success to the “outstanding” handling at the late Queen’s funeral.
Mr Philp said the police did a “fantastic job” at the late Queen’s funeral, adding: “We will work to ensure we have a similarly successful operation”.
More than 2,000 guests will gather at the abbey on May 6 to witness the nation’s first coronation in 70 years, with foreign dignitaries set to include First Lady Jill Biden.
