The 2023 World Snooker Championship will resume after the chaotic scenes on Monday during Robert Milkins’ clash with Joe Perry.

A protester from Just Stop Oil covered a table in bright orange powder, forcing a delay of about 40 minutes. While a second protester was seen trying to climb onto the next table where Mark Allen and Fan Chengye were playing, apparently trying to attach themselves to it.

Former world champion Stephen Hendry, on commentary duties for the BBC, said: “I’ve never seen that in a snooker event. It’s a first. It’s scary. Fantastic!”

The afternoon session at the Crucible sees four-time champion John Higgins resume his first-round match against David Grace needing just three frames to win, having built up a 7-2 lead in the opening session. And perhaps the most eagerly anticipated showdown begins in the first round when superstar Judd Trump takes on Crucible specialist Anthony McGill.

She’s been a sloppy off of last year’s runners-up in the last two frames, and this isn’t the best start to the next frame, giving McGill a long-range opener with several reds already in space on the baize.

Yes, this is Trump’s first contribution, stalling at 53. But that’s a good way to re-score, a perfect double for left-center.

However, this will take some finishing. No side while blacked out means that he cannot create one of the balls from the right pad. It forces Trump to take an ambitious long red in the baulk, which isn’t being sent down the right path for the yellow enclave.
