A man has been arrested after two dogs attack people in Birmingham

Six people, including an elderly man, have been attacked by a pair of dogs near a primary school in Birmingham that has been closed to protect its pupils.

Staff at Barford Primary School locked pupils inside the school hall and warned parents that dogs had the potential to “kill a human”.

Police officers went to Willow Gardens around 2:30pm on Tuesday and arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of possessing a dog that was dangerously out of control.

West Midlands Police said in a statement that all of the victims were treated in hospital for bite injuries, none of which were life-threatening.

Both dogs, whose breed is unknown, were seized and taken to secure the kennels.

Parents and caregivers have received a text message alerting them to reports of “two potentially very dangerous dogs roaming around the school”.

“The probability is that the dogs will kill a human being,” the statement said.

Parents who arrived at school to pick up their children were advised to stay in their cars.

The children were later released just before 4 p.m.

West Midlands Police said in a statement: “A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a dog that got dangerously out of control after several people were injured after being attacked by two dogs.

“We were called to Willow Gardens, Winson Green, shortly after 2:30pm today (18th April), following reports of two dogs being loose and attacking people.

An elderly man was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

“Five other people were taken to hospital with muscle injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.”
