Gusty winds will bring heavy winter rain to parts of the north and north-east of the UK until Monday, and some of it is expected to fall as snow in Wales and Scotland, according to new Met Office forecasts.

Cool weather is expected with prolonged rain – expected to be torrential at times – expected throughout the day across the UK, the Met Agency said.

Some of the heaviest rainfall is expected in England and Wales, while snow is expected in the latter and Scotland as well.

Rainy, wintry weather will be followed by “brighter” weather across the remaining areas on a short respite, the Met Office said, but “scattered winter rain” will continue.

A band of heavy rain will sweep across the central regions of England, drifting east during the evening and dropping.

The night will witness a decrease in precipitation across the country, which will make the nights more clear after the continuous wave of rain that leaves the country.

A light drizzle is expected to persist in only a few parts of western England and Wales on Monday evening.

Bright mornings with almost no rain are expected for the next week.

However, Tuesday will be a lukewarm start with the far northeast’s winter rains only continuing through Wednesday.

The cold will gradually decrease during the week.

After the UK experienced its driest February in 30 years, the country is in the “epicentre” of the boom boom, according to the National Trust, which kicks off its first-ever “flower week”.

She said that due to the late start of the season, Britons would be able to enjoy flowers for longer.

“We’re in the epicenter of a really amazing floral show,” said Andy Jasper, of the National Trust.

“Now more than ever, there is so much to explore and discover in parks and gardens across the country, and there has never been a better time to get out and take a moment to watch nature awaken before our eyes.”
