Manchester United are keen to sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane this summer and have made their first approach to Tottenham for the England captain, with Daniel Levy expected to demand at least £100m to sell Kane to a rival club.

Manchester United are said to have made their first approach to Tottenham for Harry Kane as they set their sights on signing the striker this summer.

United are desperate to boost their attack ahead of next season after Cristiano Ronaldo left the club in November and named Kane one of their main targets.

They are aware that negotiations with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy are likely to be tricky and have taken an early approach to gauging his stance on the potential sale of Kane, according to The Telegraph.

Kane has one year left on his Spurs contract and it is understood he is unlikely to extend his contract at the end of the season given Spurs’ current struggles.

Tottenham were defeated 6-1 by Newcastle on Sunday and it seems that he is set to miss the Champions League next season, while there is no permanent coach after Antonio Conte left the club last month.

Manchester United made its first approach to signing Tottenham striker Harry Kane. Al-Ittihad coach Eric Ten Hag is keen to strengthen his attack this summer at Old Trafford.

Levy has previously rejected multiple offers from Manchester City for Kane in 2021 and is expected to demand a large fee to even consider letting Kane leave this time around.

While it is believed he would be willing to let Kane move abroad for around £80m, Levy could be seeking at least £100m to allow the 29-year-old to join Premier League rivals.

Kane has made it clear in the past that he would like to chase Alan Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals, suggesting he would prefer to stay in England.

United are keen to find out exactly what Levy wants to ensure they don’t waste time this summer and potentially miss out on alternative options such as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

The Red Devils travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday with pressure mounting on Levy after Tottenham’s capitulation at St James’ Park.

Fourth-placed United are six points clear of Tottenham going into the game, although Erik ten Hag’s men hold two games in hand on their rivals.

His side have also been successful in cup competitions this season, winning the Carabao Cup in February, while booking their place in the FA Cup Final in June.

Levy recently insisted Kane could win trophies for Spurs, but the club have gone 15 years without a trophy.

Meanwhile, United are back fighting for trophies and that may appeal to Kane.

Levy now faces the difficult decision of potentially selling Kane to a direct competitor this summer, or risk losing him for free next year.
