SHENICK, Alaska (AP) — It appears that a 6.2-magnitude earthquake did not occur, the Alaska Earthquake Center reported Saturday morning.

The quake appeared on the epicenter map saying it occurred at 8:32 am off the coast of southern Alaska. The online post said the epicenter was in the Gulf of Alaska, 66 miles (106 kilometers) south of Chinnick, a community of 87 people on the Alaskan Peninsula, according to the center.

Later on Saturday morning, they posted a note saying, “Event Deleted Notice” and “This event has been deleted after being reviewed by a seismologist.”

Phone messages and emails left with the epicenter for comment on what happened were not returned.
