Lionel Messi has been suspended for two weeks by Paris Saint-Germain, and Messi went on an unauthorized trip to the country early this week.

French club Paris Saint-Germain suspended Lionel Messi for two weeks after he took an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia on Monday.

The World Cup winner had pre-arranged the visit for one of his business commitments as a tourism ambassador there.

Paris Saint-Germain’s players were supposed to be out on Monday when, after their 3-1 defeat at Lorient on Sunday, coach Christophe Galtier called the squad up for training instead.

Although Messi was already on his way to Saudi Arabia and unable to return.

When the Paris Saint-Germain players were photographed on their training ground at the Camp des Loges on Monday, Messi was a conspicuous absentee.

The trip was not approved by Galtier, nor by sports advisor Luís Campos, so the club opened disciplinary proceedings.

As a result, the Argentina captain will miss PSG’s next two matches, at Troyes on Sunday, and against Ajaccio on Saturday, May 13th.

PSG offered Messi a new contract on the same financial terms.

But he’s still not convinced of their athletic project, so he’s not committed yet.

Barcelona wants him back, while there is interest from Middle East clubs and the MLS League. However, he still has to open concrete negotiations with any other club.

Messi also shared a photo from his stay, claiming he was in awe of the landscape of the kingdom. Messi played the full 90 minutes of PSG’s dismal 3-1 defeat by Lorient at the Parc des Princes.
