Emma Raducano is out of Wimbledon and the French Open after wrist surgery

Raducanu’s reps suggested these three actions — which she will continue with the ankle, followed by the left hand — are all straightforward, adding that they expected her to be back training on the court by late summer. But a quick comeback is in no one’s interest, and the expectation is that she will miss the US Open – the last major tournament of the year, which begins on August 28.

In all likelihood, Raducanu will be looking to return in the fall – perhaps even at the Chinese Championships which have been reintroduced to the WTA calendar this year. “It pains me that I will miss summer events,” she said in her Instagram post. “I tried to downplay the issues, so thank you to all the fans who continued to support me when you didn’t know the facts. I look forward to seeing you all back there.”

While three operations may seem extreme, it makes more sense to address the sources of Raducanu’s pain than to require her to continue gnashing her teeth and competing while she is unfit. In Madrid last week, she gave a terse and awkward interview that suggested a woman was at the end of her rope.

While Raducanu previously spoke about her wrists in a way that suggested tendonitis, now it appears she has wrist bosses. These are bony growths on the back of the wrist, which wouldn’t be a problem for the average citizen, but can cause inflammation when combined with repetitive actions such as swinging clubs or golf clubs.
