Pep Guardiola’s side are back at the top of the table

Manchester City returned to the top of the English Premier League table after a confident 3-0 victory over West Ham. Nathan Ake headed City ahead at the start of the second half to help them move past one point from Arsenal, and Erling Haaland scored a record 35th Premier League goal. of the season before Phil Foden also struck out

Erling Haaland’s teammates formed a guard of honour, while the federation celebrated vocally. There is really nothing to do with this attacker.

The Norwegian rubbed his hands together, then darted down the tunnel of love. What do you give the man who has everything? Good slap, that’s what.

The Manchester City players took turns shooting at Haaland as he ran through them and then uttered the fawning.

Haaland scored his 35th Premier League goal of the season, ahead of Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole, whose record tally of 34 has stood since the mid-1990s.

It’s an amazing feat with five league matches left in the season. Next up is the 37 Premier League goals scored by Ron Davies for Southampton in 1967 and who would bet against Haaland?

Erling Haaland celebrates scoring for Manchester City during their 3-0 win over West Ham United on Wednesday night. The striker broke in the second half to slot past Lukasz Fabianchi (not pictured) to score his side’s second goal. Haaland celebrates his goal which he assisted. City returned to the top of the Premier League table, ahead of Arsenal by a point, and Haaland’s 35th goal this season was a new Premier League record, beating the 34 scored by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.

The 51st in all competitions also marked City’s ninth consecutive league win as they returned to the top of the table last night. They both felt inescapable.

I arrived in the 70th minute after West Ham had lost the ball in the halfway circle. It was played to Jack Grealish who snuck a pass into open space and history beckoned to Haaland.

He still had a rough ending, but did we question him? of course not.

Haaland waited for the right moment and swept the ball past Lukasz Fabianski with his left foot as the West Ham goalkeeper walked on the edge of the penalty area. Pole got the ball but was unable to stop it from falling into the net as the Hammers fell 2-0.

After a stubborn initial resistance from West Ham, Nathan Ake City headed in from a free kick in the second half. Ake celebrated his goal which brought relief around the Etihad Stadium and helped open the game for the home side, after Haaland’s goal, Phil Foden sealed the match five minutes from time. Marked by a superb volley that took a heavy deflection, substitute congratulated Grealish and his team-mates as City finally secured a comfortable victory. Up until that point, neither City nor Haaland had played well. On average at Fulham on Sunday, Pep Guardiola’s side have been a bit better for long periods here.

But they don’t have to be. On the 25th anniversary of the club’s relegation to the Third Division, City moved ominously within sight of their fifth Premier League title in the last six years.

A Nathan Ake header early in the second half helped their lead before Phil Foden’s late volley hit home the 1,000th goal under Guardiola.

Arsenal have given their best but the frustrating truth for Arsenal is that City have track and distance in these title races. Of Guardiola’s four successes in the past five years, two have come over Manchester United with games remaining and two over Liverpool on the final day, including that impressive comeback against Aston Villa here a year ago.

City will find ways to win whatever the circumstances and the scenario now could hardly seem more favorable.

They will face Leeds at the Etihad on Saturday, when Guardiola will have a chance to put Sam Allardyce’s brash claims about him at his unveiling to test.

City should be four points clear by the time Arsenal face a perilous trip to Newcastle on Sunday.

Any hope that West Ham would do Arsenal a favor before kick-off was dashed when an illness error forced manager David Moyes to send home Declan Rice, Thomas Soucek and Naif Aguerre. However, Arsenal can have no complaints about the manner in which Moyes’ side have acquitted themselves here. In the first half, they frustrated City with high pressure.

Fabianski only had to save once, from Riyad Mahrez, and Haaland’s only threat was a header wide.

The heroes lacked any real fluency. A slip here, a misplaced pass there. “Come on, City,” he urged the federation impatiently.

Thilo Kehrer is close to winning the ball after bringing down Haaland inside the penalty area during the second half on Wednesday, as Haaland looks on as the Manchester City manager gives Rodri instructions during a difficult first half for the hosts.

Guardiola, dressed all in black, strolled across his technical area, arms outstretched, mumbling to himself.

It took West Ham’s best chance of the half to rouse City from their slumber. Jarrod Bowen got the wrong side of Ake’s throw-in but was unable to beat goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, who was picked ahead of Ederson, from a tight angle.

The city responded immediately. Grealish blasted a shot into the near post from Fabianski, and two minutes later Rodri hit the other upright, sending the ball across the goal.

Guardiola’s nerves, and those of an increasingly restless Al Ittihad, were settled within five minutes of the restart as City took the lead.

David Moyes’ side struggled with illness and injuries prior to the game and the defeat added to their relegation fears

It started with another foul on Grealish, as Flynn Downs got a booking. Mahrez hit a free kick towards the back post and found West Ham stumbling for the first time. Angelo Ogbonna got under the ball, letting Ake head a free at the back post that shocked Fabianski.

Guardiola was still concerned enough to turn to the fans in the main stands at one point and demand more support.

Haaland made sure he grabbed the headlines again with his record-breaking effort, and Foden came on to score the third when his deflected shot flew off the unfortunate Emerson.

It’s hard to see City giving up their advantage now. Meanwhile, Moyes hopes his team will have enough in the tank to stay awake. They have played very well here under the circumstances.

All that remains is for the City players to stand up and honor Haaland’s achievement. More records will certainly follow, as well as, you suspect, another Premier League title for Guardiola and his men.
