The royal family watches from the balcony of Buckingham Palace as RAF red arrows fly overhead
A Royal Air Force (RAF) plane flew over the Mall and Buckingham Palace despite the weather – with the newly crowned King and Queen, Charles and Camilla, watching from the balcony.
RAF Chief Marshal Sir Michael Wigston had said it was “50/50” as to whether the launch would take place, warning low clouds and rain would make it “impossible” for pilots to sail.
The flypast was to consist of more than 60 aircraft, but the Department of Defense (MoD) made the decision to reduce the team’s overflights.
The RAF admitted that it was “disappointing that the bad weather prevented all our aircraft from taking part in the flight”.

In a social media post, the RAF said: “The safety of our spectators, pilots and crew always comes first, and conditions were not right for the other aircraft planned to join today’s flypast.
“We hope for clear blue skies in June for the King’s birthday.”
The Flypast lasted 2 minutes and 30 seconds and was watched by Charles, Camilla and members of the royal family.
