Didn’t you feel it?
Experts have confirmed that an earthquake occurred in Donegal at approximately 12.30am on Saturday (6 May).
In a statement, the Irish National Seismological Network (INSN) said the quake had a magnitude of 2.5, which means it would be classified as minor, and it occurred at a depth of about 5km near Glenveagh National Park in the north of the county.
As well as recording the event via its seismograph stations, the National Institute of Satellite Statistics states that it has received reports that the earthquake was “felt by people across the Donegal area”. This includes the cities An Fál Carrach, Ballybofey and Letterkenny.

While some said they or their families slept through them, others reported hearing “clattering”. Meanwhile, one commenter posted a picture of an overturned lawn chair, joking in the caption: “We’ll rebuild.”
