Damascus, May 8 (Prince Latina) The Syrian Prime Minister, Hussein Arnous, revealed today that the earthquakes that devastated the country last February killed 1,414 people and injured 2,367 others.
The prime minister told the country’s parliament that 553,000 people were rescued from under the rubble by specialized teams.
He indicated that the number of affected families reached 224,762 families, with a total of one million citizens, of which 1,348 families are still sheltering in 32 shelters.
According to Arnous, the number of uninhabitable buildings that will be demolished as a result of the disaster has reached 9,194, while 66,889 buildings are in need of reinforcement.
On the government’s post-earthquake response, Arnous explained that state institutions faced an additional challenge and a new test of a different and unprecedented kind.
It was a challenge in terms of time, material, financial and human resources, exhausted by the timber war and the blockade of the country.
According to the prime minister, today Syria has entered a new phase of openness and constructive and fruitful cooperation.
We hope that this stage will be a prelude to ending the suffering of our people as a result of the unjust unilateral sanctions and the looting of its natural resources by the American occupier and his followers in eastern Syria.
In turn, the Syrian Red Crescent revealed that its volunteers provided eight million assistance services to more than two and a half million affected people.
On February 6, two strong earthquakes shook several Syrian and Turkish governorates, causing tens of thousands of damage, especially the Syrian governorates of Aleppo, Hama, Idlib and Latakia. jrr/jav/mgt/fm
